Summer Career Camps

Through partnerships with area industry leaders and Gateway Community & Technical College, we’re happy to offer rising high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors 11 different career camp opportunities in June: automotive technology, major topics in biology, computerized manufacturing & machining, energy careers for young women, human resources (HR), healthcare, hvac & plumbing, IT, manufacturing & engineering technology, skilled trades, and welding.
Making Opportunity Accessible
Due to the generous support of our sponsors, there is NO COST for participation, and lunch is included. We’ve included one opportunity below — the Summer Engineering Exploration Kamp (SEEK) at the University of Kentucky — which does have a participation fee. The cost is $65, and a limited number of scholarships are available through the program. If you apply and are accepted but do not receive a scholarship and need financial assistance, please reach out to NaviGo. We have limited funding available to help cover the fee. AUTOMOTIVE TECHNOLOGY CAREER CAMP

Students will learn about shop safety, shop tools, lube oil & filter change, fluid checks, tire rotation, brake inspections, tire alignment,
warning lights, and basic diagnostics. Students will also learn about careers in the automotive field, meet with automotive professionals to
discuss job duties and education requirements, learn and apply new skills in open labs, and make new friends.

Students will explore careers in computerized manufacturing and machining while learning about the programs available at GCTC for these pathways. Through hands-on activities, they will gain insights into machining as a viable career choice, utilize CAD/CAM software (MasterCam) for design and toolpath development, and demonstrate basic milling techniques to produce parts.

HEALTH CAREERS SUMMER CAMP

Students will learn about careers in the healthcare field, meet with healthcare professionals to discuss job duties and education requirements, learn and apply new skills in simulation labs, earn Basic Life Support Certification, and make new friends at the Health Careers Summer Camps! This camp is completely free for incoming high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors (grade during ‘26-’27 year).

In this engaging 4-day camp, students will explore the dynamic field of welding and discover the educational pathways that lie ahead. They will be introduced to fundamental welding concepts as well as virtual welding techniques. Participants will have the opportunity to:
- Implement workplace safety procedures
- Handle tools and machines safely
- Assemble and disassemble a welder while performing basic repairs
- Weld at a beginner level using MIG, Flux, and Stick processes

SUMMER ENGINEERING EXPLORATION KAMP (SEEK)

University of Kentucky
The University of Kentucky Department of Civil Engineering is hosting three one-week residential Kentucky camps (i.e., kamps!) for rising high school seniors. The Summer Engineering Exploration Camp (SEEK) will feature hands-on learning opportunities, guest speakers from engineering companies, and field trips to active project sites. Students will stay in dorms on UK’s campus along with civil engineering college students who will serve as mentors for the campers.
